UNA-USA Dane County Chapter Endorsement of UN Security Council Resolution 1860 (2009)
Be it resolved, that we, the
membership of the United Nations Association-USA, Dane County (WI)
Chapter, ask members of Congress, the State Department, the White House,
and the Obama transition team to support the immediate implementation of
UN Security Council Resolution 1860, which calls for:
An immediate ceasefire;
Cessation of the Israeli blockade and opening of Gaza's borders;
Unimpeded provision and distribution throughout Gaza of humanitarian
assistance, including of food, fuel and medical treatment;
And commitment to lasting peace on the part of both Israeli and
Palestinian leaders.
Furthermore, we call upon our political leaders to support the efforts
of United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon as he works to achieve
these goals.
In addition, we must express our outrage at the ongoing Israeli bombing
of United Nations schools and other UN-related sites clearly designated
as refugee gathering places.
More details
The UNA-USA, Dane County Chapter, is the local arm of the United Nations Association of the United States of America. It has been active in the Madison area since the late 1940s, serving member needs for information about the state of our world and the critical issues before our United Nations, providing opportunities for members to influence our national legislature, and, on occasion, joining with the wider Madison community to support concerns for peace and justice for all the citizens of our world.
Our membership is approximately 120. We meet monthly, September through June, for informational meetings, and we keep our membership informed with updated position statements. A variety of programs are on-going and provide many opportunities for membership participation. If you want to participate we'd love to have you.
